Trussrod tension and sound?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,
I have a KSD Proto J 5 and have been messing around with the setup a lot.I thought I had it dialed in really well with quite a bit of relief in the neck. Then I noticed a rattle on one note only( B on the D string) and I tightened the trussrod to see if it would go away.It did.I had not loosened the trussrod completely and I gave it 1/2 of a turn.I still have some relief in the neck but not quite as much. Now it seems to me that my strings sound more lively and the instrument resonates more.
Am I imagining that or does the tension of the trussrod indeed have an effect on the way a bass sounds?

The tension of the truss would not impact tone; however, it is possible that the slight change in action settled the strings in the "sweet spot" in terms of the pickup height.

There is always an ideal distance between the strings and pickups. Maybe you found it by accident.

The truss rod adjustment probably resulted in higher clearance and thus less choking of the strings by the frets (you may not have noticed it but it was probably happening unless you had your action super high) resulting in a stronger, more sustaining tone.

What they said, the truss rod itself does not affect the sound, but the action sure does
