Trying new setup and repair guy in Boston area

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm starting this thread because of the known backlog of repairs and setups in Metro Boston.
The two shops I have used in the past are great! But they remind me sometimes of an exclusive club with the velvet rope- and the guy with the itchy nose on the inside of said rope, eyeing all those on the outside trying to get in trying not to scream "Me! Me!".

I brought in a bass that has "ragged fret ends" and was literally ripping lateral cuts into the epidermis of my fretting hand.

I started the process exactly 24 hours ago- he returned my email within 3 hours and for a musician??? That's amazing! Means he gets up to start working before noon!
Had a 10 minute sit down to discuss the bass and guitars in general, he projected a one week turnaround. 50% deposit which is pretty standard.

If his work is half as good as his customer service, we have a winner!
I'll update this thread when my repaired bass is back in my greedy little hands. Then if he permits, i'll release his contact info in the thread. (is this against the rules? Mods please advise!).
Am I displeased with Wolf and/or Mouradian Bros? Not on your life! Its just that there is such a backlog of guitar issues in this area there's not a way in h*ll two shops can carry the load in an inner metro area of 2 million people.
The only drawback is if I give him a boost on TB it might do me a disservice based on a flood of new business that creates a new "velvet rope".

My roommate goes to a guy at Mr. Music in Allston. I'm probably going to go to him since the is a bass player himself.

DJ Parsons in Watertown, Ma

OK so this all worked out well- my P/J5 had "ragged fret ends". So instead of playing the usual get in line game at the other two very decent but busy places, I went to DJ Parsons in Watertown at 41 Carrol st.
DJ took me in the day I emailed him! His place is filled with guitars in progress and we discussed the issue and he quoted me a price, took half in advance and within a week the work was done and done well.
DJ has talent, is a nice guy and has a love for stringed instruments.

The work was done well and fast, and at a good price. I cleared it with him to share the info below:

His contact info is:
