i was stringing my standard scale beater bass with dr long scale strings, i didnt bother to cut them short since it has a 2x2 headstock it meant i had turn the string over the post way too many times. anyway i didnt want to cut short the string incase if i wanted to put it on my fender so i decided i will just turn it around extra.
ok so while i tuning it up the gear mechanism inside broke up and a little metal piece fell out. so i guess its i gotta replace the tuner now? i spent 55$ on the bass in total so i really want something cheap but working, any clue where can i order one? its a small grover kind of a tuner
edit: its the one with no cap, the cap just flew out when it broke.

An $11 tuner is going to be junk as is. An even cheaper one? I can only imagine how horrible it would be.
Is $11 dollars that big of issue? That's like two number 10's from McDonalds or two packs of ciggarettes. |

Can You post a pic?
There's plenty of clever ways to do "McGyver" type of repairs. I'm almost positive that someone will have a working idea. Quote:

pics posted in the op

When You take the screw off, does everything still look relatively normal or is the end of the post broken, screw threads stripped or are the gear teeth broken?
I have machined a new post for my POS Epi tuner, but that's probably not an option for You .
If there's decent instrument shops around, try asking them for replaced tuners. Shouldn't be too expensive.

Great way to learn how stuff works (or doesn't). It's possible that the gear screw just backed out, tighten it back up (maybe a drop of Loc-tite for good measure) and you're back in business.
FWIW, those $11 Gotoh GB7 tuners are perfectly good tuners, been using them for years, never had any probs with any of them.
