Tuner Swap.

Does changing tuners impact the setup of your instrument? The reason I ask is because I just tried some Gotoh Res-o-lites on a Fender RW and first off the bushings didn't fit and secondly the action seemed to be impacted. Did I do something wrong here? Or is this common with a swap like this?

They won't fit the bushings because the pegs are different sizes. I don't believe anyone makes any kind of adaptor, but looking couldn't hurt. Action shouldn't be affected because string action is between the nut and the bridge, anything behind the nut, like tuners, shouldn't affect that.

Thanks Smiley. I didn't think the action (or buzz-less-ness, if that makes sense) would change either but was surprised that it did. The bushings fall out, but the posts did fit fine through the old ones. I was really excited to try these too. They are really light.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this? Or experience similar results with a tuner swap?

Assuming you took all four strings off when you swapped?

Anytime you take the neck off tension completely, there is always a possibility it won't come back up EXACTLY the same. Although, I would expect the changes to be subtle.

Of course, there is also the possibility, since you re-strung it, that one of the strings isn't seated the same, a saddle piece moved, etc.

I don't think I have ever completely removed the strings and not had to tweak a little something when I strung it back up.

None of this should be overwhelmingly noticeable, though.

Thanks. I actually changed the tuners one by one thinking removing them completely may not be the best idea. So ultimately what you are saying is worst case I'd have to run through another full setup.
