Tuners hard to turn, something fixable?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a peavey 5 string acbxp bass, fairly new. Love it but I'm having trouble turning the tuners. It feels like there's too much tension on them (I'm tuned standard, with errrrr .105? strings). I didn't realize how hard they are until I picked up my old 4 stringer and those tuners are smooth as silk. The tuners also seem to jump when detuning instead of smoothly going down.

What adjustments can I do to them? They are the sealed type (youcan't see the gears). ....

Your tuners might be too tight or need a lick of oil. If you are not confident in fixing this problem yourself, just take your bass to a repairman.

I'm not familiar with the exact tuners on your bass.

On some tuners there are screws on the end of the tuners holding the keys on that can be loosened/tightened to adjust the feel of the tuner. A little adjustment will go a long way.
