Tuning Key has snapped.

I'm just looking for some advice regarding a snapped tuning key on my bass. I was tuning up my bass as usual earlier today, and my peg snapped off! It's literally the part at the top that you wrap the string around.

I'm not sure if it's worth taking off and replacing it myself or taking it to a music store for it to be repaired. I have never done it before, although I imagine it's not a difficult task.

The only other difficulty I have is that I don't know if their are specific sizes I should look for and how to measure it. I can find nothing on the internet relating to the size/type of tuning key relative to my bass. It is an Ibanez SR760 if that helps.

If anybody can give me any advice relating to this I'll be ecstatic, because right now, I'm gutted that I can't play my bass .

Hi.

Was it the splines on the gear end of the post that gave away?

That happened to my Epi Thunderbird once.

I machined a new post, but unless You have a machine shop I wouldn't bother.

Get a new tuner from Your local shop, even if it's wrong finish, for now.

Regards
Sam

I'm sending the washer and nut to one of those tuners to a dude in another thread; if you want the tuner itself, I can send it to you. Just let me know which string it goes on.

It was the damn spline part that gave way. Yeh I'm not too bothered about getting a different finish. I'm thinking of just replacing all 4 seeing as 1 has already gone, and maybe the other 3 could go .

Thanks for this. Can you hold fire on that offer for now, simply as I'm going to be taking it off later when I get home from work. I had difficulty taking it off last night as the nut was in so tight and I didnt have the correct tools. I friend of mine has the tools so I'm off down to his later to get it sorted. It's muchos appreciated .
