Tuning machine suggestions

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently picked up an old fakenbacker (pretty sure that it's an Aria) and besides a good set up and new strings (the neon isn't doing it for me) I need to get new tuning machines for it. The ones on it are kind of tough to crank and they rattle a lot.

What kind would you suggest that I look into and how do I go about figuring out what is going to fit?

I don't know how to measure peg hole diameter, so I can't help you there. I do know that Hipshot Ultralites are (I think) the lightest tuners on the market. You can find a set of 4 online for about $85, and they drop into most basses with minimal screwing.

Gotoh Res-O-Lite are supposedly the lightest. But whether or not the lighter weight is worth the premium over Ultralites or Schaller BML, is the question.
