Tusq or brass nut?

Sign in to disble this ad
I would like to replace the nut on my Fender P-bass. It is a standard plastic. As far as tuning, I read that bone nuts allow the string to slide easier and not bind up. That is my prime concern. Which would be a better choice? Tusq or brass? Any other reasons?

You're comparing apples and oranges.
If you want a bright, ping-y tone, go with the brass nut.
I'd choose the Tusq myself.

I'm sold on the TUSQ. I like the tone better than bone & it is much less brittle and prone to chipping or breaking than bone. (I have TUSQ saddles on my bridge also)

I have found Tusq nuts that are pre-slotted for fender basses. Are there any bone nuts pre-slotted? Or Graphite? I like rich tone, so i guess i'll stay away from brass. But I would like the strings to "slip" well in the slots.
