Two basic setup questions

Just looking for consensus here, or seeing if there is one.

1. Is string spacing best set center-to-center or edge-to-edge?

2. Is string action best set equally for each string or with more action for larger strings to match the increased string excursion?

1. Center to center cause if you use edge it gets messed up depending on the string gauges. Cause diff gauges are diff widths.
2. Individually as best suits you for each string. Seriously. This is especially true imo if you like low action. Do not be concerned with absolutely following fretbaord radius either. Start roughly with it that way then adjust each string up or down a tad as wanted to best suit your fretting hands chording, hammer ons and so on across the strings and according to your most used string pairings.

I always measure center-to-center. My action is incrementally higher for larger gauge strings. Example: my G is ~5/64" but my low B is ~ 7/64".

The thing that bugs me with center-to-center is that the gap between the strings will be narrower for the larger strings. Doesn't that throw off the spacing as well?

You guys seem to agree with me about action.

Correct on all counts but standard bridges have a fixed spacing to start with unless you go with a Hipshot A or Schaller roller type bridge. Spacing at the nut is also mission-critical.

You could do a set-up with a standardized between-string spacing just to see how it feels. It would end up at ~16 mm or so. All bets are off if trying to measure taper-core strings at the bridge saddles...like I just did! D'oh!!
