Ok, Ive been playing bass for quite some time, but never really went into the repair and replace side of it.

I just got a Mighty Mite Jazz neck, and im trying to put it on my MIM jazz bass. Got everything put on it with relative ease, but when attaching to the body, not only is the neck pocket not wide enough, it doesnt sit in the neck pocket correctly. I put it on, and get crazy buzz down low. I adjusted the truss rod, and got it alitte bit better, but not all the way gone. It just seems like its in there angled. the higher frets are fine, but down below 7 or 9 it buzzes, and any below 10 or 12 and it just doesnt do anything. I plan on sanding the side so it actually fits in the pocket right, but what should I do about the heel? Ive looked at it, and it is just slightly thicker than my stock MIM neck. Id say less than a quarter inch, so will sanding it down even help? is my neck warped? I dont know, and Im hoping to do this on my own, since I pretty much spent all my spendin' cash on getting this neck, and cant afford professional help.

So thanks for any help given, and ill try to repay the favor if anything comes up that I know about

I'm at a loss in seeing how the setup assessments can be made if the neck pocket isn't wide enough. With my definitions of those terms, that means you can't mount the neck at all. We must be on different pages there.

It sounds like the saddles are too low, & I'd guess too much neck relief in compensation.

What's the neck relief measurement?

How are you stringing it up and playing it if the neck is not seated in the pocket?

Did you screw it on without it being properly seated in the pocket?

Suggestion: photos with lots of closeups.
