Will the string fit in the slot in the nut? Is there a string retainer on the headstock to add downward tension?

Does your string wrap DOWNward on the tuner? It should. Three wraps going down will probably keep it on the nut.

well i cant get a picture of it because i don't have a camera. The string does still fit its just way too lose for it to stay. Their isn't a retainer for that string. And i would wrap it down three times if the string was long enough. Ill try and get new strings and wrap let it wrap its self down more.

cheap way to fix a big nut slot is some super glue. put a drop in the slot let it dry. Add more to let it build up until the slot's a little smaller, then just work the string back and forth in the slot a little bit to file it down in a way. I did it on my Squier 5 When I switched the tuing from BEADG to EADGC. Worked out pretty good, and was cheaper than having a new nut made.
