Unbalanced volume

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm having problem with my "higher" notes being lot more louder than my "low" notes.I mean lower notes are a like a cat meow wher e as the higher notes scream too loudly.

The volume changes dramatically after the 12th fret and occurs on every string. So this is definitely a problem of string height between the first frets and last frets. How can I fix this?

ps:I needed to shim the neck couple of days ago,but it was just like that before the shim.

Ok, is the volume uneven on the neck of the electronics?

If your strings are old, they will have dead spots, so I recommend new strings. don't bother with Ernie Ball (or the absolute **** that is Rotosound), just go for D'addario nickel would, by far my favourite brand.

If your not very technically minded, then get a guitar tech to set your bass up properly. It is important that the string height radius matches the neck radius, and the pickups are given their correct height. Good intonation also helps. If your lucky to have adjustable pole pieces, adjust them and get them to the same radius as the neck too.

A great book is 'How To Make Your Electric Guitar Play Great'. It is based around guitars, but the theory is identical!

Strings are new,no dead spots so far.,

"It is important that the string height radius matches the neck radius" theory is the most important part here I guess.Somehow lower notes have more space between the pickups then higher notes when they're pressed towards the neck.

Uh,also I don't want a guitar tech to handle this as I should be able to fix my bass and I'm working on it for years.
