Univox or other Matsumoku gurus, need a little help here.

I just won a Univox Custom 335 Copy bass on ebay, and noticed that the neck plate says "steel reinforced neck". My other Univox 335 copy bass (a newer version, from the 70's rather than the 60's) says "steel adjustable neck" on it, and has a working truss rod.

Do the "reinforced" necks have a truss rod? I see a truss rod cover in the pictures, and I think it'd be pretty stupid to have one there when there isn't a truss rod, but you never know.

Thanks for any replies.

Take the cover off and look for an adjusting nut.

I don't have the bass yet. I was just wondering if anyone knew before it gets here so I know what to expect.

I'll check mine in the AM and let you know. It's an early one so it probably matches yours. If so, it does have a truss rod.

To the best of my knowledge, ALL the Univox 335- copies have truss rods, regardless of when they were made.

And those are darn fine basses. Congrats on the acquisition!

Thanks! This'll be number 2, but it's going to be my primary since I'm currently fixing the warp in the neck of my other one, and it has a large hole in the back where someone cut into it to replace the electronics. They did a bad job too, and I had to go back and fix it. Something still isn't right though, so when I saw this one on ebay, I jumped on it because I want to start from scratch.

Pilgrim, do you have any idea where to find a bridge that will work on these basses, preferably with the mute? I'm taking the bridge and rosewood tailpiece off the beat up 335 copy I have and putting them on the new one when it gets here.
