Unusally loose strings, while still being in tune

Hello everyone,

The strings on my MIM Jazz seem to be exceptionally loose, while still being in tune.

They are loose to the point where I can get bends happening up at the second fret with my little finger, on any string, and with very little effort (I was seeing how loose they were, my little finger is usually nowhere near the second fret ) and when using any finger anywhere above the 4th fret a bend takes place whether I try or not. This is getting to be extremely annoying as my fingers will slip off strings because of the bending.
Note: I have messed up fingers, part of the slipping is due to the way I play, but...
When I play basses in shop, I do not have this problem at all, or at least to an extremely small extent. Even if the in-shop bass is out of tune.

Now, Is there any way to fix this problem, short of buying new strings or taking it to a pro to be re-set up?

Would the action have anything to do with this problem?
Would adjusting the neck do anything to help?

Thank you for reading!

Sounds like it's the strings themselves that cause this.

What strings are you using?

What bass are you comparing to? Could it be that your other bass has really high string tension?

Anyway, try getting a new set of strings factory strings arn't always the best.

Last time I checked I was in tune, and in Standard tuning.

I'm begining to think that my action might be the problem.

Either way, I'll get new strings soon (hopefully), and try adjusting the action.
