Unwanted chorus effect from Stingray

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a MusicMan Stingray (2005 model, I believe). It produces a kind of a light chorus effect when played. Anyone experienced that? Is the MusicMan supposed to do that, or is there something wrong with the electronics, mics or anything?

you're pickups are probably to close to the strings. Lower them a little and see if that helps. It's either that or your bass was sent from the future to kill you in your sleep. let us know what happens.

My first 2 guesses are

1) The pickups are too close to the strings... almost touching

2) You are using strings that have a graduated winding near the bridge saddles like labella supersteps

oh yeah and 3) You have a 2 pickup model and the magnetic pull of the extra pickup is creating wolftones (a problem with old sabres sometimes.) Also fixed by lowering the pickups.

Thanks, folks :-) You're quick!
My pickups are pretty close to the strings, so I guess you're right. I'll try to lower them on my next rehearsal, and report the result back here.
WarriorJoe: It's just a 1-pickup model, but good tip anyway.

for a stingray they should be 6/32 " from the top plastic (not the pickup peg) of the pickup to the bottom of the strings

*Thats for factory settings anyway
