Upper horn extension?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Godin SD-4 that I love to pieces (it's my main bass), but it's hard on my back after extended sets, due to its Tele-style upper-horn (and it's somewhat of a neck-diver). So, tonight, I duct-taped a spare unicycle crank to it and my strap, and by extending the upper horn like that, it was much more comfortable. However, the band leader probably wouldn't appreciate something as ghetto as two big wads of duct tape on my bass, and I would really like to find something more permanent anyway. I thought about having someone machine something for me, but I wanted to see if there's anything pre-existing. I know that there's something for the ASAT, but that wouldn't really work. Any other ideas, TB?

You can get the little steinberger extension for $30, but you have to put 2 screw holes in the back of the bass. I have this horn externer (lower horn), but I can't find the company that made it anymore. I think they when out of business.

Ive seen somewhere where a company offers a strap pin that is about 2" long that replaces the one already on your bass Im trying to find where it was located. Pretty good fix all you do is unscrew the old pin and put this one in its place with a longer screw. I cant find it for the life of me on the web now though. Ive built them before and I can make one fairly easy on a lathe. If your interested PM me.

Hmmm, I'm not sure that would work with my bass; the horn strap button already has problems with wanting to pull out, and I'd be concerned that it would be long enough as well. For good balance, I think I'd need more than 2". Thanks for the suggestion, though.
