Using a D-tuner to go from D standard to drop C?

I know that it's typically used for dropping an E to D, but would it work dropping a D to C?

Since it's still only two half steps, it seems like it would, but has anyone done it? Does it work well?

sure. it could likely get you from E down to C, so D-to-C will be no problem.

I believe D to C would work fine.

I'm looking at mine. When I go from E to D, it moves about half of the
total available travel. It looks like it could almost go from E to C -- but
I wouldn't bet on it.

I don't see why not. That's half the distance from D to C.

Well now that I know it would work, there's another $70 I can tack on to how much I need.

Yes, it will work, you just have to adjust the amount of drop, from a half-step, to three half-steps (or possibly more). Thus, it can work from C to B, B to G#, E to D, F to E, so on and so forth.

Try it and see...then take notice on how wobbly and flat the low notes sound. Do you like that? then by all means play on!

A proven fact that is still ignored and argued in this entire forum. The lower the pitch, the longer the string must be to achieve the notes proper timbre.

Hundreds of years of piano building proves this. Take a look at a piano sound board, notice how long and thick the strings are at the lowest octave? Ever wonder why that must be so?

Only one bass builder that I'm aware of supports this and that is Dingwall basses with a 37" fret board. I would love to try one if I could find one!

I actually like low tension. Not low to the point that my strings are just rattling against the fretboard, but low tension gets me the slap tone I want. Besides, drop C isn't too much of a drop when using high tension strings.

From the Hipshot site:
WHAT IS THE RANGE OF THE BASS X-TENDER KEY?

Normally the bass x-tender keys are tuned to switch between E and D. However, they should easily reach low C and in many cases low B.
