Victor Wooten's "Rubber Band" strings

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey gang,
I love the incredible flexibility Mr. X's strings seem to have when he slaps. Which is obviously just like Victor Wooten's strings, relief, action... I don't have near that technique, however I do double thumb when I'm playing more groove oriented songs...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9x6yIrlvO8I ( Yes I know, this isn't Vic, I changed the thread title for clarity of subject matter after I attached this link)

Anywho, my new Clement bass ( love it!!) seems to have a much tighter feel. When I slap or double thumb, everything is much stiffer...

I'm using medium strings, so is this a relief issue? And if so what should I do to get a similar relief and flexibility to the strings? HOW CAN I GET THE MAGIC RUBBER BAND-LIKE STRINGS??

A "more tighter feel" than what, exactly?

The strings when say Mr. X or Victor Wooten seem very pliable - and it doesn't sound like either are using super light gauge strings...

When I say tight, I mean that strings don't seem to give or bounce very well. Particularly on an upstroke for double thumbing...

I actually have to hook the string with my thumb and pull, way harder than I have had to do on other basses.
