Vintage modified upgrades?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just bought a vintage modified jazz bass, i have a pair of seymour duncan quarter pounders and a badassII. You think it would be worth the time to change the pickups and bridge? I mean I like the sound, but people say the Badass is a good upgrade for this bass, plus its just lying around collecting dust.

A badass is a personal favorite of mine. It's adds an instant gratification and it's a ZERO mod upgrade.

The pickups however, may or may not improve the sound. I was reading the Duncan Designed pickups in that bass are just SJB-1 pickups made overseas. Good pickups.

Heineken?! **** that ****. Pabst Blue Ribbon! Haha, alright thanks, its that I don't really feel like taking the strings on and off so i would like it to be a one hit job. I guess i couldn't kill me changing them, i just wouldn't like to change them for the worse if the other ones are somehow better, either way the Basslines look sexier with the big pole pieces. anyone changed the pickups on this bass with similar pickups?

Aren't the SJB-1s the vintage Seymour Duncan pickups? Because I was talking about The sjb-3 are the qaurter pounders, they have larger pole pieces and I guess a different sound, not too sure how different though.

I am guessing a louder more modern sound.

the bad ass II is a little too bright for me and you cant bring the action up very high but if you like low action and a really bright snappy sound then that bridge is the ****!

in fact you are right
duncan designed are modeled after actual duncan pickups
but its like comparing a MIM p bass with a MIA p bass
the MIM is the same made in mexico instead of america
also parts are cheaper in the MIM but its modeled after the MIA

don't bother upgrading the pickups...

the bridge maybe... but all the VMJ really needs is some shielding for the pickup & control cavities... then you can run single pickup without annoying hum...

I personally consider strings and shielding have the biggest impact on the VMJ.
