Buy a couple of nut blanks, some files, and learn to do it yourself. They'll need filing anyway, even if they are "direct fit" because the slots need to cut to YOUR bass no matter what you get. If you're not patient, don't want to invest the time and money, take it to a good tech to cut one and be done. It'll cost some (don't know how much any more, I've not cut one in about 15 years), but a properly cut nut is a critical part of a proper set-up. The thing is, almost no factory nut on mass-produced instruments are cut right anyway. They're almost always too high, and too frequently not angled correctly.

Not sure where you are located and if you have access to a good luthier, but I just had a new nut made for my 59 P bass, a properly fitted bone nut and a good setup cost me $75. Considering its only the 3rd one in this basses 50+ life, its a good investment...

Bone Nut

My inexpensive practice bass has a piece of plastic for a nut. The strings seem to get stuck in the ridiculously excessive nut slots. Eventually, the core of the string breaks.

On my last string change, I took a file and opened the slots up. To my surprise, I did not screw the thing up but actually fixed it.

Next string change, I want to buy a bone nut....gonna have to read up on how to remove the plastic P.O.S. & what files to get at stew mac.

Yeah,....the nut is a crucial part of the instrument. Mine's too freakin' low and whenever I really strike the open strings with any kind of testicular fortitude, they buzz....

Sorry....hopefully my babbling is sort of on topic.
