Hey everyone... as you'd expect I'm a newcomer to the world of bass playing, just got my Fender Squier Precision today and sounds rather wonderful, at least in my newbie ears.
Anyway, was just wondering one thing. When I was removing the factory plastic covering from my pickguard, I decided to yank the volume- and tone knobs off from it to get a better reach to the plastic. I recall turning the knobs maybe a quarter to the left, and then lifting them off. But now, as I try to reinstall them back on in a similar way (pressing them back on etc.) they just rotate on the spot and can easily be lifted off, without tightening properly. Hopefully I didn't break the knobs.
Is there a specific procedure to be done with these? Don't see any screws on the knobs themselves, except a small hole in each knob... could those be the additional "tightening screws" that some knobs apparently have? Please help!

Nothing seemed to happen, maybe the key was too big or something, or...
Now that I remember, I did see some metal "debris" come out from underneath the knobs when I pulled them off, could've easily been most of the screw that was tightened in the knob's hole which I surely should've checked before yanking it. Dammit, probably need to buy new knobs now, anything I do doesn't really seem to help. But then again, maybe I'll scope for some better ones. |

I just checked my Carvin and Ibanez basses to see what kind of set screws they have.
The Carvins (made in USA) have slotted screws on the larger knobs (volume and blend), and need a 5/64 inch allen key on the tone knobs.
The Ibanez (made in Korea) uses a 2 mm allen key on all the knobs.

The holes in the knobs are around 3mm in diameter, that could be the size for the allen key though. Should find some different sizes.
But meh, new knobs already on the way and this time they're black, going to paint/replace the pickguard in the future with the same colour theme as the new knobs...

Anyway, the knobs thankfully fit again. Still waiting for the black ones though, so if they don't fit I'll just use the stock ones again. Will decide which knobs look better though, once the new ones arrive and IF they fit. |
