Well I am a very heavy kind of kid!!!! Iron maiden, led zepplin, billy sheehan, metalica (only cliff's metalica), pirmus, ect ect... in runs through my blood. Even though I LOVE jaco, rush, yes, and other softer bands I like Metal, not that **** nu-metal or death metal but ozzy or steve harris kinda metal, the old stuff... the good stuff!!! And I wanted to get a wammy-bar on my first bass. It is early 80's Olympic (houston brand) precision bass deluxe ripoff. It is black with a B/W/B pg and has a P/H pup config. and it is string through.
I need to cost ($$$), brands, cost of installation, websites, and most of all will it fit? And to those who have one what are the draw-backs. And this is a crappy bass which I don't really care bout and I won't regret getting a wammy-bar, and I do have another bass I would never do this to so don't worry. |

You can get the Hipshot one at Warmoth, or the Kahler one at Wammiworld, either should be easily findable on eBay too.
You could also check out BassTremFanatics, for more info.
The main drawback, is price, and amount of work that goes into installing one, and its not easily, or cheaply reversable.
They work great, and do stay in tune very well, when set up propperly.

| | | | Get the Kahler. I got mine for 185 bucks new. You will not regret it. The kahler is the least invasive to the bass. You can easily do it yourself. The Kahler is the best one, period. Keep on rockin'! |

Interesting idea though.

You have to carve the living crap out of your instrument to install it. |

Do any of the bass trems lock? | The Steinberger did but it's an extremelly rare unit.
When you know how a whammy bar works, 200 almost seems cheap. |

They're not alltogether necessary, as they hold tune fine.
Kahler do make an expensive version, that you can lock the bridge so its a regular bridge.
$200 bucks was more than worth it for me.

I will get, in a few years, a mim pbass and put a wammy bar on it. Only because it's only purpose would to have QPs and a wammy bar. Thx for the help tho guys!!!
