Warbling G string...

That's the best way I can describe it. My bass is an active Spector 5 with EMG-HZ'S. I have adjusted the pup height but it won't dial out. I have yet to try the saddle. The sound is almost chorus like..not much sustain. Nut? Bad string? Ideas?

Check this thread. It might be the problem. If not, it's a good place to start. When you said "chorus like" this came to mind as I had a similar problem.

Weird Problem: Chorus-y sound from DR Fatbeams

Let us know.

Yeah, take the string completely off the tuning post and then re-install it BUT don't wind the string round the post by hand.Let the tuner take up the slack. That'll fix it!

This may seem like a funny question, but are you playing anywhere near a fan when this happens?

No, but I know what youre talking about. I had an old radio shack amp that used to pick up french radio stations. Ill try the string thing and report back.

I just read that thread. My bass has DR Sunbeams on it. Is this common with DR? All the other strings are fine.

Might be a twisted string.

Na, it can happen with any brand of string. My post on the thread was about a set of RotoSounds the owner had installed by hand winding the strings around the tuning post. Round wound's are especially prone to this problem.

If this is what your problem is, then usually just removing the string and re-winding it using the tuner to take up the slack will cure it. If it improves and still doesn't sound right, you may have to replace the string(s) in question.

Sometimes a bass will warble during mating season.
