Warmoth Deluxe J 5 & Nordy Big Singles

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all!

I am starting a new Warmoth project and I have a question about the string spacing.

The bass is going to be a Deluxe Jazz 5 with a Badass V bridge. I plan on installing Nordy Big Singles into this bass. I am worried about the string spacing on the bass lining up with the 19mm required spacing on the Big Singles.

1. Should I shell out the money for the custom spacing on the Big Singles?

2. Should I install a bridge with 19mm spacing?

3. Do I have nothing to worry about or do you have any other suggestions?

Hmmmm

I think you can pull this off if you get a bridge with non pre-grooved saddles as well as a non-cut nut on the neck; You can then line everything up the exact way you want (or let your local luther-type guy do it for you).

An alternative to using a Badass bridge would be to use a Schaller or Hipshot A bridge, which both have laterally adjustable bridge saddles.

If you just get a stock cut nut and stock grooved bridge, I suspect you will have some misalignment.

looking at warmoth specs, you need something around 18mm, if not less (neck width at the heel is 74mm and on the deluxe specs they mention a 17.5mm spacing). With a 19mm spacing the B and G will end up too close to the edge of the FB.

Although the BS 19mm would work flawlessly with a 18mm spacing, since you are building from scratch, why not have a custom BS made once you have the right measurements?

Just a thought

That's a good suggestion. I guess I didn't think about using the hipshot. I have that bridge on my gecko and I love it.

If I go with the hipshot A will I still need to adjust the spacing on the nut?

I talked to Adrian at nordstrand and this is also what he suggested. I know that the custom BS will cost a little extra and I was hoping there was another way to do this.
