| Warwick Just-a-nut II slot width?

So after a bit of time and a lot of patience I finally was able to get a bass I've been after for a bit. My 5 string Warwick Corvette!!! Not a big deal to most, but I'm not so much wealthy by any means hehe. Now I've been playing it with stock strings since I got it. I picked up a replacement set of these new Dunlops or something and the B string didn't fit in the bridge...ok I need a tapered B string, I can deal with that. So I just set the B string aside and used the 4 on my other bass, sound great blah blah blah.
Now I've decided I want flatwounds on it...but the first set of flats I used, the G string is too wide for the nut slot!! Now I'm not too sure the size of these, but they feel really light for flats, so I'd guess .50 at the largest for the G. So Now this is becoming more of a nuisance than slightly annoying. And furthermore what I REALLY want on it are nylon flats...which I believe are even a step larger :-( I've thought about upgrading to the just-a-nut III, which isn't a repair I'm prepared to do myself, but would that solve my problem? Or is it possible maybe to widen the slot a tad without worry of the nut breaking, or being too thin on one side?
All help is greatly appreciated! If anyone uses flats on their 5 string Warwicks, do share what you use if you've not had to make adjustments. |
