My NEW Warwick corvette (ash body) just got a paint chip. The bass is red, but the chip is white underneath so it stands out. I am dissapointed because the bass is new.
Lets say I get enough of these blemishes, can Warwick re-dye the instrument, or are there places that can give it a nice paint job?
What I am really wondering is, will the warwick get a vintage look if this continues, i love vintage paint peeling, but this will probably just look ******. Anybody have a died warwich with color chips? How does it look?

Keep your paint chips, and always be careful!

| | | | maxbass is right-repainting is expensive and probably beyond your capabilities to do yourself, at least if you want an as good as Warwick does it result.
If your bass has one of the thick, tough catalyzed factory finishes, and, from what you've described, it sounds to me that it does, it won't "relic" gracefully like the old nitro finishes do. It'll just look beat up and chipped.
You can find a matching color paint and touch up chips so they won't show at a distance, but to get them to blend in perfectly requires a lot of skill and in some cases is almost impossible.
So, either baby your bass, keep it in it's case when not playing it and worry about it all the time or just let it accumulate normal wear and tear and not worry.
I remember when I bought my first good bass-a brand new 1962 Fender P and I remember how bad I felt a couple weeks later when I got my first mark on the finish. I was so busy playing all the time though that I forgot about it quickly and when I finally got rid of that bass 15 years later it looked like it had been very beat up, and it had, from playing 6 or 7 nights a week. Nobody worried much about that type of wear and tear then and that was before the relic thing became cool. It just showed you were a working musician. |

Here's a picture of my WW, stained french violet (excuse the gormless expression) its got a big chunk of colour missing over the pickup and a smaller one over the neck pup (which is now quite big too, old picture)
up close u can see dints and dings all around the edge of it too. it doesnt bother me in the slightest.

Did you spend that much money on a bass to look at it in a glass case or to play it? Playing it means that occasionally things will happen to it. But what good is a bass in a glass case?

| | | | why cant my warwick get f*** up and look as beautiful as jaco pastorius's bass. Some basses just dont wear out nicely like others. Mine is a good example...
