Warwick Thumb 6 input jack problem

Sign in to disble this ad
I've recently aquired a warwick thumb 6 bo off ebay and I'm very happy with it but it seems to have a problem with the input jack. The seller never mentioned this problem btw.
No matter what cable I put in it, it cuts out when the cable shifts with almost any movement. I've looked inside and all the wires seem to be sodered but i can't see inside the input jack to see if theres something in there.

Any odeas as to what the problem might be? And would I be able to fix it myself or sohuld I brave taking it to GC and probly spend a fortune?

Thanks

It's probably a loose jack and with sealed jacks like that it is easiest to replace the jack. You can find them at most music stores like GC, and they are easy to solder in. If you aren't familiar with soldering, have a qualified tech do it.

I've had mine replaced in the past. It's the 'Wicks weakest link IMO. Barrel Jacks are a PITA.

The previous owner probably tucked the cable around the strap button to prevent the jack accidentally pulling out whilst playing (which most of us do). If it's a straight jack cable as opposed to a right angled jack it almost certainly strained the jack socket and bent the contacts.

Warwick in their wisdom use sealed barrel jack sockets meaning you can't bend the contact back into place, so you have to install a new one.

I have the same issue with my Thumb 5 BO that I really must get looked at.

Thanks guys! I've done some soldering in the past so if I can just find my soldering gun I'll be good. I'll try to go to GC tomorrow and pickup a new jack.

Thanks again for the help, it was really bothering me not really being able to play my bass.

I'm pretty sure this is what's going on with my two thumb 5's - how hard is it to get that barrel jack out? Looks like a special tool is needed, or..?
