Question Wax on an unfinished neck

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey,

I just got an Ibanez RG7321. It has an unfinished maple-mahogany neck, which isn't very slick. I'm used to Warwicks, with their oiled necks, and am not sure about unfinished necks.

I have some Ken Smith wax that I use for my Warwicks, and am wondering if I can use the wax on my RG7321's neck.

Thanks for any responses.

BTW I know the RG7321 is a guitar, but I've found this is the best forum for these sort of things.

I believe Ibanez uses a light coating of tung oil on the back of their necks. I see no reason why a few coats of wax would harm anything. I always did the opposite to my Ibanez guitars, a few swipes of 0000 steel wool or a green scotch brite pad on the neck did wonders to remove the sticky feeling that the factory tung oil has.
