weird truss rod nut, help please?

Sign in to disble this ad
so my neck is straight as an arrow, but the nut on the truss rod has two problems.

1. it is at the bottom of the neck and there is no groove in the body or pickguard for easy access. i could easily fix this on my own,

2. the nut of the truss rod is a phillips head screwdriver knotch instead of something that would accommodate an allen key.

problem number 2 is making me fear changing my strings and going up a gauge because i wouldn't be able to adjust the neck if it does begin to bow

as of now, i'm seriously considering returning this bass and getting an SX that i can make as sexy as i want.

is there a way to make the truss rod usable? i will post pictures soon

What is the bass? That sounds exactly like a vintage-style Fender truss rod. There's a whole thread here about doing the adjustments on this style neck (title says somehting about removing the neck to adjust truss rod).

Go find that thread, read the whole thing, and then deciide if it's a problem.
