Unhappy What Can Happen If A Nut Is Cut Too Low?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've setup my bass, and there lots of buzz, especially on the A string, even after having straightened the neck (as seen in the setup stickies). If I straighten the neck anymore, I'll get backbow. I don't pluck too hard either.

When I sent my bass in for a setup, the nut was shaved down a bit. Could it be that the nut was shaved too low, and that's what is causing this problem?

If your nut is cut too low it will only have an effect at the first fret. Once you have fretted a note the fret acts as a stop just as the nut is a stop between tuner and saddle. Once fingered the fret functions as the nut.
