What to do?

Hello everyone. Ahhh, my first posting.
I have an 83 or 84 Squier Precision Bass with all stock parts. I'm on a very limited budget and I was wondering how these changes will effect my bass if I make them. A) Replacing stock bridge with Bad Ass II bridge and B) replacing stock pickup with a Seymour Duncan quarter pounder.
I'm just doing home recordings and maybe a jam every now and again but I'd like it to sound as good as possible while not throwing around lots of $$$ that I don't have or else I'd just go out and get a more prestige bass. Oh yeah one other thing, are the early Squier's any better than latter ones? I'm not trying to start a long drawn out discussion on this matter but I'm just curious if that would at all be true. I'm more concerned about the pickup and bridge questions.
Thank you all for your time in reading this thread and I welcome all of your feedback in this matter.

Yours sincerely,

The early Squiers are typically very high quality basses. If it was me, I wouldn't mess with it given what you use it for.

The early Suiers are good basses. The ones I played back when they were new sounded every bit as good as the American models. Quality was good also.

The Basslines Quarter Pounder will give you a bit bigger sound than the stock pickup. I like it myself and prefer it to the stock and to other brands and models of replacement pickups. It also records very well.

Don't forget the importance of using good strings.

I don't think I'd bother replacing the bridge unless the stock one is rusted out. The improvement in sound with the heavier Badass won't be all that noticeable when playing in a real world situation. In fact, you may prefer the stock bridge sound. If you're on a limited budget it's the last thing I'd consider changing.

Thanks to lonote & 62bass for your responses. So far I guess I'll keep the bridge and replace the pickup. I was kind of hoping to hear some more opions so guys chime in if you want on this subject.

put something heavy one the headstock (like a clamp), thats about what your bass will sound like with a high-mass bridge
