What to do with my mikro?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've got an Ibanez GSRM20 MIKRO bass.
http://www.ibanez.com/BassGuitars/model-GSRM20

I WILL be replacing all the electronics and maybe tuners + bridge,
apparently this thing has some sizing issues,
so I'll have to keep that in mind.

The music I play will range from mostly old death metal stuff similar to bands like
Death + Morbid Angel + Quo Vadis,
but would like to play much softer but more audible stuff from bands like
Tears For Fears + Joy Division,
plus funk would be fun to get into.
I realize that is a wide range of tone.

What sort of p'ups and tuners should I be looking into?
Keep in mind, this is a SHORT SCALE bass.

This has a sound a like

but totally different p'up holes, crap.

Perhaps bring this up in the Mikro club?

Agreed; hopefully someone can directly address your concerns there. But let me say that I can get a wide range of tones with my Mikro and a good multi-effect unit. Replacing the tuners is probably a justifiable thing to do, though; mine are OK but they just feel cheap.

I've replaced my Mikro's tuners with some Gotohs and it was a good change. The cheapasp tuners that it comes with only contact about 1/3rd of the possible area within the tuner hole. The replacements have full contact and seem to improve sustain and tighten some of the low end mud. I also replaced the nut with a bone one as my original one was poorly cut.
