What do you call the part that turns the string?

So I turned the string to hard on the E and i heard a pop, next thing i saw was the bottom middle of the pegs circle thing falls off with some gold paint thing i looked at it and it was the part that turns the string

What do you call the thing inside of the tuning pegs? do they sell those thing to replace since i cant turn it at all.

nvm found out its a machine head thing. mines got chipped and broke so i need to buy new tuning pegs.

I suggest using some graphite lube on your tuning gears, nut and bridge saddles to facilitate proper operation of the pegs in the future.

for future reference when you use the words "circle thing" its kind of hard to know what exactly your talking about.
