What kind of finish does SX use?

I have a 62-SJB and the neck feels really sticky and slow. I'd much prefer to sand it down to feel more woody. What kind of finish is this? Anyone tried it? Recommended sandpaper?

Thanks

edit
doesn't matter much anymore, i'm ripping this baby up with some sandpaper

may wanna finish it up with some high grit sandpaper, 600, 1000, whatever. or 0000 steel wool.
