While i like my Sub i dont really like the black neck.
Size wise its fine but i would prefer something a bit more "classy", maybe a maple neck.
Any suggestions? Can i buy a SR4 neck and put it on?
Cheers,

If I were you, I'd just strip the black paint off, there's a perfectly good maple Stingray neck underneath.

If I remember, the neck was a sticky black paint with no gloss to it, almost like spray paint with no clear coat. I think I used a really gritty sandpaper, and the finish came off pretty easily. I taped off the back of the neck up by the headstock, and kept the headstock black on both sides. Underneath was a perfectly fine maple neck, that I finished with a few coats of tung oil. This was like 4 years ago, and I haven't had my hands on a SUB since, but that's what I recall. If the sandpaper doesn't work (which I'm pretty sure it will), Citristrip will take the finish off.

You know, i think ill give it a go.
We have a few weeks off from gigging coming up, plus its not my main bass so maybe ill have a go.
My main concern is that if i mess it up it will de value the bass and i wont be able to sell it later on.

Try to protect the finguerboard and neck/body joint with blue tape.
Are you gonna leave it unfinished? Tru oil is a nice option.
SUB isn't a valuable instrument anyway.
Just make it good enough to be played and don't worry about that. |

Definitely mask off everything.
