What is possibly wrong?! MM Stingray Classic

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello, I'm new here to these forums! I just recently bought an MM Stingray Classic and a brand new GK MB212 Combo Amp. I'm really into slap bass and I played all the time with my Ibanez SR505 and my old Line 6 LD150 amp. Anyway, with my new rig, everytime I even try to mute the strings with my palm I get a very strange sound I'm not sure how to describe. It just doesn't sound right, or clean, it's somewhat of a popping sound. When I play my stingray out of my Line 6 Amp, I do not seem to have this problem. And when I play normally as opposed to slap with my GK amp, I don't have that problem either. I've done everything I can possibly think of, I've tried raising the dampers up all the way...I lowered my pickups, messed with the action on the strings, adjusted the truss rod. Everything. My old Ibanez plays fine out of the GK amp too, it's just the Stingray and the GK together do not make the beautiful slap sound I was hoping to get. Can anyone help me out?

It sounds to me like you are clipping the preamp on your GK. Turn down your gain and turn your master volume up, or use the active input (or both).

ive tried that, it definitely decreases the intensity of that sound, but if I hit the strings hard enough it still makes that sound. It's not like I can play any softer either, it's slap bass..

Are you bouncing the strings off the pickup? Is something loose on the cab? The first batch of those had some rattle problems. I bought a 212 combo and returned it the next day.
