What size wrench for MIA Fender truss rod?

What size allen wrench do I need? And is a ball end necessary if I don't plan to remove the pickguard?

I believe it's 3/16". The ball end doesn't work very well, so I've gone back to removing the pickguard.

My 2006 MIA P bass uses a 3/16".

I actually have a MIM which also uses 3/16, but in checking a Fender link to allen-wrenches a couple of weeks back (actual Fender allen-wrenches), if I recall, everything, MIA/MIM anyway, uses US sizes (not metric) except some of the Strats (guitars).
