What are some good sanding grits for radiusing a MIM Jazz Fretless neck?

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently coated the fingerboard of my fretless in polyurethane but there were some uneven spots. So I checked the radius on Fender's website (which happened to be 9.5) and ordered a radiused sanding block from stewmac. I was wondering what grit I should start out sanding at, which grits to do in between and which grit to finish off with. Thanks!

do about 300 grit wet...work to 1200 grit wet....then use automotive polish (scratch) and a lamb's wool buff wheel ....

WARNING: don't use ANYTHING that contains silicone

220, 400, 600, 1000, 1500, 2000, polish (note: polish is NOT a finish. Polish is another finer grit).
Buff (finest polish) and finish with wax.

Look up (google) color sanding for more info. . .

silicone will stay with the wood and any future work or refinishing will be problematic.

it's best just to avoid it.

Where did you get the polyurathane that you coated the fretboard with? What di you use to apply it? I'm considering doing the same thing. I took my frets out fine and have been playing flatwounds straight on the wood. I'm thinking that if I coat then the tone will be more consistent throughout the neck. right now there are dead spots due to unfilled fret holes.
