What's this?

Sign in to disble this ad
The thing is,both pups and the ramp is the same height. But the strings are closer to the neck pup.The G is unplayeble due to touching to pup.I have to lower the treble side.

I can't get it set up as when I first got the ramp.It was perfect but in time... I can't get it low enough to fully appriciate the ramp. What couses such a problem? Its a bolt on neck,do I need to screw with the bolts?

Also,I lost sustain in time.

I got a gig coming up and its not pleasant to play like this.

ok, 2 suggestions, firstly (if you havent recently) change your strings, its amazing how much about an instrument changes when its got a nice fresh set of string on it, and if that doesn't make a difference, raise your action.

You could post a picture of the problem.
As i get it, the ramp was installed later.
In general i would set up the bass the usual way, so its comfortable to play.
After that the Pus must be lowered or raised, if you cant lower the Pus low enough, check under them, maybe the foam is thoo thick.
Now i would check the ramp, if it doesnt go along with the setup, then it must be worked on it. Maybe it needs to be sanded down, that would be my approach but a picture would help.

Thanks a lot for the help! I started adjusting the truss-rod,when its allright,I'll adjust the ramp and pup height.

But its really weird, the string height at the neck pup and bridge pup is different.Ramp was added later, normally,it has a straight surface. The height is different at the both ends of the ramp too.The neck was changed due to a crack on a grain.Maybe that causes it,don't know.

Also G string has more tension than others, fells odd.I lost sustain in time too.Whats going on with my bass?Could it be only a setup issue or something is very wrong with the bass?

Thanks again!

It is near impossible to perfectly diagnose an instrument over the 'net, but a qualified repairperson should be able to check the basics quite easily. Is there anyone you could take the bass to for an opinion?
Strings are 3 months old. They were put on by a professional. He set up the bass perfectly too.I change the strings once in 5-6 months.

There are always "qualified repairperson" who wants to check out my bass for 50$.

Thanks a lot for the help, very appreciated!
