Where to buy (string) nut?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys, I ordered a nut from guitarpartsresource.com and I got the wrong size, so I need to order another one. I'm looking for other options to purchase from though because the shipping cost was way too excessive ($6 SHIPPING for the nut and an output jack, yikes!)

So, where do you guys buy your nuts from?

I think I measured the dimensions correctly:

1-11/16" x 3/8" x 1/4"

I've searched a tone of sites and it seems like I'm out of luck for pre-slotted nuts in that size... I'll either have to get a black and some tools to slot it, or somehow fix the current cut which is slotted too deep...

Then why did Guitar Center charge me $55?

Can you hear the difference between a bone and plastic nut or a brass nut?

IIRC there should be a difference with the sound. I remember reading about that in TB but don't remember much, its been some time.
I may be wrong though, some expert should asnwer that.

Searched for Luthiers in my area and the nearest one is about 50 minutes away, hehe.

Is there anything I can use to "fill" in the slots so I can re-file them the correct depth?

I'd give wood glue a shot. Its white as the nut.
Or perhaps transparent super glue?
