Where can I buy a Fender style string retainer?

So my A string has some break angle issues, which I mentioned here before, and although you guys can debate the REAL source of the problem all you like, I'm going with the opinions of my tech and myself, and we think it's a break angle issue. So I think I'm going to put a second retainer on. So where would I be able to buy a Fender style round string retainer?

I wouldn't use the round one on the A string, it'll just look weird. A better option would be a Hipshot 3-string retainer.

Have you tried contacting Fender?

I would love to find a couple of these... but have never seen them for sale other than buying the whole bass

I like the fact that you can tame the A string without drilling any holes.

I have a bass where I could use one on the E string, too.

Well, the thing with a 3 string retainer is that I'd have to thread the D string under when I put new strings on, and I'm not sure I want to deal with that. I suppose I could use a less obtrusive 2 string retainer, but I figured that would look more awkward than two matching retainers.

Nope... It can be done from top.

Would not be surprised if Hipshot makes this for Fender and only for Fender.

You and me both. I've got one on my 60th Ann P, and it really is that cool. I've emailed Hipshot, and yes they do make them for Fender, but there are no plans for an aftermarket one yet.

I have seen a few threads here asking if it is available. Fender calls it a Strong-arm. I would like one for the B string on my P5. If I can not get my dealer to order me one I am going to make one myself.

And I will buy at least 2 from you if you make extras.

Me too. I'd love to put them on my other P's. I tried getting Fender to sell me one. They won't. They are ONLY available on the basses that have them stock.

It would be a lot of work to make it look good. I could whip up something that works in a couple hours but it would not look as nice as the Fender/Hipshot one.
I am going to beg and plead Cory at American Guitar to try and get me one. If he can I will let you know.
I have heard that Fender will not sell them outright but may be a dealer can order them.

I wonder if there is a patent on them.......

Hmmmm I work in a machine shop and am good buddies with the programmers. I'm gonna see how hard it would be to whip something like that arm strong up from some scrap material (we have literal tons). I'll report back on Monday!
