Where does the string tree go?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just purchased a Jazz bass neck from Rondo Music (SX) for a modded jazz I've been working on. There isn't a hole drilled for the string tree and I'm not exactly sure where to put it. I I figured I could go ahead and string it up to see where it needs to be placed horizontally on the headstock but I'm not sure where it should go vertically. Is there some equation or specific spot it should go? I'd appreciate any help you could give. Thanks!

If its a round one like it goes right in the middle of the D and G string 3 1/4 inches from the nut. At least thats where it is on my jazz.

The goal of a string tree is the make the angle of the string to the nut the same for all strings. Position the string tree so it pushes the strings down so they are all at the same angle to the nut!
