Where to find acoustic bass brass bridge pins and brass bridge saddle?

Sign in to disble this ad
I want to put in my acoustic bass a brass bridge saddle and/or bridge pins. I put a brass bridge saddle in my acoustic guitar years ago and it really helped project and make the sound full and bright. Am hoping to accomplish similar with my acoustic bass (which is an Olympia by Tacoma BTW).

I can find acoustic guitar brass saddles online that have basically the same dimensions as the saddle in my Olympia and I am going to try to match it to the existing bridge. But I can only find acoustic guitar brass bridge pins and none for acoustic bass. The guitar versions I don't think will work. Would be interested too in finding true blank brass material to make a saddle.

Any leads?

Many ABGs use guitar endpins for bridgepins - my Tacomas do. I've never heard of brass guitar endpins, but that may help you search.

Personally, I've found ebony works well enough for me.

Good luck!

I have a Tacoma and agree. I assume that the Olympia is the same as the Tacoma since they are a low priced version . I would look for brass endpins.

Thanks Showdwon and HeavyDuty - I also found a thread that suggested the bridge pins for acoutic guitars should work for acoustic basses. You can buy a brass set of six for as low as $9. So may give it whirl...

Geetar bridgepins aren't going to work - you need guitar *endpins*. Trust me!

lookup ebony end pins on ebay (include the space in endpins... end pins)

You will see several options. The one from bruceweiart looks inexpensive but I am having the damndest time trying to figure out whether it is for 6 endpins or 1.

I used ebony ones with MOP dots on mine - they were in a local store's parts bin. These ones are similar:

Stew-Mac has several types listed, including bone:

John Pearse offers a set of brass pins. Maybe you can contact the company directly and buy just the endpins from returned sets?

Other hard pins (not plastic) to consider from Elderly:

Yeah I could do with some, chewed my E one up after stringing it with 110s and had to resort to using pliers... Didn't stop me from doing it again cos it sounds awesome.
