Where to find a neck?

Sign in to disble this ad
I need some help... I am starting to buy all the hardware and stuff to overhaul my 1997 Ibanez sr300. I have been unsuccessful in finding a neck for it though. I want an all black, fretted neck. I haven't really decided on what type of markers/enlays I want so I want to see what all is out there and go from there. Anyone know where I can find one?

I doubt you would be able to find a neck already made to fit that bass. You would probably have to have one made custom for it which would probably cost more than the bass is worth. You would have to check with some Luthiers and see.

So there isn't anywhere I can buy an Ibanez neck with a black fret board?

The fretboard can be dyed black after you have the inlays replaced. Just an option

You can't really buy Ibanez parts anywhere that I am aware of. The majority of necks you see are for Fender style necks because the neck pockets are uniform. Once you get away from that Fender style neck there are very few options. Custom builds are usually required, but those can be expensive and on a low cost bass, usually not worth it.

If I dye my fretboard will it stain my frets? Do you have to have the inlays replaced before you dye the fretboard? I guess I need to read more into dyeing the fretboard.

There is no guarantee that will fit an Ibanez neck pocket. The neck heel is what matters, not the headstock.

So after thinking about it and doing a little reading... I think I am just going to dye my fretboard. I have a few questions I am going to throw out here and I will also start a thread in the luthier section on them. SO... I am planning on using black leather dye. Do I need to remove my frets? Of course if I have to remove them I will replace them, how do I remove them without messing up my fretboard? While I am working on my fret board... Is it possible to put block inlays into a neck that is already all put together? If it is possible, is it feasible? I mean is it something I can really do or is it more than likely way to complicated?
