Where to Get a Filed Down Bridge Saddle/Barrel??

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey All--

I have a Fender USA '62 VS Jazz Reissue. I need an E string bridge saddle that has been filed down about 1/2 in diameter --on the bottom/flat so I can get my E string action down. With the screws down all the way, it's still too high for my taste.

I've seen these before. Don;t want to do a shim.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Andy

My only idea is to do a shim.

I´d get a replacement part (to not mess up the original) and take it to a machine shop to have it machined to fit...

but a shim sounds more like it...

A spare saddle, a pair of pliers and a grinding wheel - 5 minutes of careful work and you'll have it done. Just keep all the fingers...it's not always easy to grind material off of small objects.

On second thought, if you had to ask, take the spare saddle to a machine shop and have them do it. And take a look at your overall setup - seems like you shouldn't have to take material off a saddle if the neck is mounted properly.

... it definitely sounds like you need to shim the neck. this can be a very standard procedure.

Did you check your neck relief? A crazy bow might make your action very high even though your saddles are all the way down.

Neck relief is set according to specs, no bow. I guess I'm just nuts when it comes to the E string height!!!
