Subscribed, as I also have a couple of related questions.

I need grub or bridge height screws for my Fender bass saddles. I see they come in sizes #6/32 and #4/40, and various heights (1/2", 1/4", and 3/8").

Which size do I need, and should I get two heights such as 1/4" and 3/8", the shorter for the E and G, the longer for the A and D?

I found some on Allparts site, but they say they are for Strats and Teles, so not sure if they would work or not.

I can't find any that just say 'bass'

I have googled: grub screw, saddle screw, etc...

At this price I would just buy a new bridge I guess:

Grab one of the setscrews & head to a local machinist or machinist supply shop. BEst is if you can bring the saddle in as well, or the whole bass.

They are simple setscrews. Any decent hardware store will have them in black oxide (dull, dark, and rust prone).

Industrial suppliers will have them in stainless.

I just did this.
6/32 ½” for American fenders.
The screws on the Japanese bridges are metric.

The MIJ won’t fit the MIA.
First thing I tried before running off to hardware store.
I haven’t compared the MIM so don’t know about those.

They're called set screws....don't know where "grub" came from.

That is what the guy at the music store told me....when I googled it a lot of stuff came up...but glad to know the REAL name of them...that should help narrow them down.

Having read many conversations on the subject, they are indeed called "set screws"...AND "grub screws" (because they look like little grubs)...AND "saddle height adjustment screws"...AND "bridge height screws." All terms refer to the same item.

This is very helpful, thanks much.

1/2" seems a little tall, especially if you lower your saddles, you end up with a good amount of thread above the saddle to poke you in the hand when you palm mute. I'd rather not have to cut them down, do they come in a shorter size, for the E and G?

And what is the purpose of the #4/40 variety (in 1/4" and 3/8" heights)?

They do refer to the same item, but I'll betcha the first 2 cost a LOT less than the last 2

They have both slotted and Allen head type
You need to know the dimensions of the screws in your bass as some are metric and some are American thread; take one to the local hardware to compare both diameter, length, and thread pitch

If you are dealing with a standard Fender set screw and worried about the height, then go with the 6-32 x 7/16. The one that fits Tele and bass is 1/2 inch (longer). If it's American/Mexican then it's English and not metric.

The one in the picture below is a Fender set screw (came from Fender), so you know it will work in your Fender bridge. It is a Fender bridge, correct?

Just take a saddle in and match the other screws in it. Not difficult. if you have an ACE Hardware nearby, they'll have them.
