ok, so i'm building a parts bass... mostly standard fender jazz bass stuff, and i'm trying to put the bridge on.

i don't want to mess this part up, so any advice would be great. where should it be? what should i consider?

After mounting the neck, the bridge saddle at just under full extention toward the nut should be 17" from the crown of the twelfth fret if it's to be a 34" scale bass. In other words, make sure your intonation range is mostly > that 17" from the 12th fret.

Distance from nut to 12th fret = distance from bridge saddle to 12th fret. In reality the saddles need to be back a little bit from this simplified statement, so move your saddles forward almost all the way before taking your measurements. Just remember, it doesn't have to be perfect, that's what the adjusters are for.
