Who is the Mike Lull of Nashville?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey folks,

I'm moving home, to the Nashville area, after living up near Seattle for years. I've had the privilege of having Mike Lull work on my basses while I've been up here, but need to find someone to work on my instruments when I move. I did a search, and found a brief recommendation for someone at Corner Music based on a setup he did on someone's bass. Does anyone else have any recommendations, not just for setup work, but for heavier custom work (fingerboard replacement, refretting, defretting, electronics, etc.)?

Thanks for any pointers!

Liam

Well Joe at corner is a great guy, he helped me alot over the years, but I have been hearing the name of another guy thrown around recently. Don't remember his name at the time I know that's alot of help, but if Joe can't do something for you he will send you to someone who can.
Welcome to Nashville.

I don't claim to be an expert. However, I had to have a couple repairs and I was recommended to Joe Glaser and or Levan's Guitar Services by both the shops and other players.

An old friend of mine, John Howard, plays in the Nashville country-rock group Sixwire now. When he lived in Austin in the 80s, he played this red bass that, if memory serves, had a P-type shape with a PJ pickup configuration. It sounded awesome for the funk-rock stuff he was doing at that time.

He said it was made by a Nashville company called Strings-N-Things. It's been a long time, and that was a cliche name at best, so I don't know if that helps.

You could go out to the Sixwire forum (www.sixwire.com) and ask him.

Ancient thread, but thought I would relate my experience with who I found here to work on my axes. I played a gig recently, and discovered that one of the other bands' bassists is a luthier. He was playing a 68 P that he had set up, and let me check it out. It was amazing, so I took my fretted and fretless P's in to him. He got both turned around for me in less than 24 hours, and they are amazing. I just played a 4 set gig last night with the fretted P, and it's like a whole new instrument. The setups were excellent, at least the equal of the work I was getting done in Seattle. I couldn't be prouder to recommend this guy:
Josh at Big Joe's Guitar Works, http://bigjoesguitarworks.com/

He is a Gibson Certified Master Luthier, and his father (Big Joe) ran Gibson's repair department for many years. Amazing quality work. All of my guitar and bass work will be going through their shop from now on.

Cheers,
Liam
