why are bass bodies so expensive

i seen squire bass bodys go for more than the whole bass!!! anyone know of a place to get them under $50? preferrably a p bass body

Because to many people are buying them, putting fender like necks on them, relic'ing them, and selling them as old Fenders to unsuspecting moms and dads who think their precious angel just HAS to have an old Fender in order to 'make it'... that would be one of my hunches.

it isn't just wood - the cost of finishing is high. Look at the warmoth web site...

And one squier body can be a very different thing from another; Older MIJ squiers are made of pretty high-quality materials... I've seen other ones that are not so well made...

go on ebay and buy one of the many clones that are out there - they'll do the trick and cheaply too
