Why is my E-string sound weak?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all,
Sorry if this had been discussed before, I've been drooling around but I couldn't find the right answer.
Anyway, i have this Am Dlx 4 Jbass and i was trying to lower the action from the saddle. Coz i prefer the strings closer to the frettboard.
But apparently the E string making a quiet bad buzz, so i put it back up a bit. But after that suddenly the E string sound so weak, weaker than the rest of the strings. And it's even closer to the pick up than it was bfore. I also noticed that the pup pole on E-string side more hidden compare to middle ones.
If anybody had some solutions or suggestions for me, i'm all ears...
thanks in advanced

I agree with Lowend, pics would help.

It could also just be a bad string... I recently restrung a bass and within a week, the E-string was shot. No sustain, dull and lifeless sound and a weird "chorus-y" effect. I had maybe 5-10 hours of total play time on it. It happens every once in a while I guess. I put the original E-string back on (which was also still pretty new) and haven't had any trouble.

Just a thought.

Make sure there's enough relief to the neck. Make sure you don't have the string to close to the pickup. Make sure the string is bent sharply as it passes over the saddle. Make sure the string isn't twisted on itself. You might have to unwind it, get it off of the tuning post, let it lay flat and untwisted and restring it. It may just be a bad string like the other guys mentioned. I allways thought my ADJ's sounded best with the stock fender 8250 superbass strings. The ones with the .110 tapered E string. You can find all the setup specs at fender.com.

Salaam laykuum Lowendfriend,

Really sorry guys, haven't got a chance to take some pics...really tight at work.
But, i will try to do what you guys have suggested. Maybe i'll get a new set of strings.

Thanks
A

If your bass plays better now, adjusting the height of the pickups on the E side may help.
